Te Rau Āwhina

Supporting Women and Children Victims of Family Violence.
Womans refuge was formed more then 40 years ago as a direct response to the harm being caused to woman and children as the result of abuse by violent husbands and partners.
This grassroots movement, driven by a group of passionate and committed New Zealanders, has now grown into a national network of refuges across the lenth and breadth of Aotearoa New Zealand.   Weather affiliated to the National Collective or not, all refuges share a common goal; the protection and care of women and children whos lives are impacted by family and intimate partner violence. Originally operating on an entirely voluntary and self-funded basis, refuges have now become a respected and integral element of the family and intimate partner violence service sector with our country, enjoying strong and effective relationships and partnerships with government, business and the philanthropic sector.
